He was born Guiseppe Giavanni Colosimo to Maria Arcangela "Mary" (delVecchio) and Fortunato Colosimo, both from Italy. Joseph arrived in the United States in 1923. On October 8, 1929, he married Norberta Mary McAuliffe. Their children were Dolores, and twin girls; Jean and Joan.
