Son of Joshua Bailey Ferry and Johanna "Anna" Wells, he was a boot maker by trade.

Walker Ferry, one of the oldest residents and the oldest businessman of the town, died at his home on Chestnut Street this morning. Mr. Ferry, although he had been in feeble health for some time, had only been confined to his bed since last Thursday and the news of his death was a surprise to many this morning. Although he had suffered greatly on the day he was first taken seriously ill, he had been in no pain since, and the end came quietly and peacefully at 5:30 this morning. Walker Ferry was born in what is called the Bogus district, near Newtown on October 10, 1822, and was consequently about 83 years of age. He was the son of (Joshua) Bailey Ferry and Johanna Ferry. By trade he was a shoemaker. About 1845, on the site of the store which had been occupied by hime for so many years, he first commenced business for himself. After a time, the old building was torn down and he built the present building, occupying the upper floors for dwelling purposes and having the manufacturing department on the first floor. He employed a number of men. He discontinued the making of shoes some years ago, but had conducted a retail store until a few months ago.
In 1847, he was married to Lois Wildman of Great Plains who survives her husband. To them four children were born, Agnes Ferry who resides at home and George W. Ferry of New York. One son, Austin died in infancy and one year ago today another son, Frank Ferry died in Denver. This son’s death was a great blow to the father and it was said by a member of the family that he had never seemed the same since that time. (reported in the Danbury-News of January 3, 1906)
