A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Syracuse, New York, December 15, 1862, and mustered into federal service March 31, 1863, as a private with Co. B, 12th New York Cavalry. He transferred to Co. E (says the roster; pension index says Co. I) on May 20, 1863, and honorably discharged with his company July 19, 1865, at Raleigh, North Carolina. He is on the roster and pension rolls as "Robinson."

His two wives were Jane Rodgers and Nettie unk, the latter of whom he married ca. 1925. By no later than 1920, he resided in Carlisle, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. Given that he enlisted at the stated age of eighteen, the birth date shown above - from his death certificate - is highly suspect. Twenty-three-year-old recruits generally did not claim to be eighteen.

His death certificate also claims his surname was "Robinson."
