dau of Nathaniel Bagwell & Margaret McConnel
Omus Shuman who was born 1874 died 1966 wrote some letters to his cousin Carmen Shuman Fillingim in 1964 and wrote several pages about the family. I have a copy of all these letters. Carmen was my great aunt.
In an old letter I have that Omus wrote, it says that a man from Paris, Tx, had told Grandma (Eliza Eidson Shuman) that her dad's name(it would actually be her grandad) Nathaniel Bagwell was on Cherokee Nation allotment list, and that all her children would be eligible for the land. Eliza didn't want to take it. (think it was because of the stigma of being Indian). Omus said he had seen an enlarged picture of Nathaniel Bagwell, on the wall at his uncle Milas Bagwell. He said he had long braided hair and it hung down on each side of his front shoulders. He said he was a nice looking man, if he would cut his hair
