Harvey Austin arrived in Ann Arbor, when he came to the Michigan Territory in 1824. He was in the manufacturing of leather goods and about 1832 moved to Jackson County, Mi. and farmed; was postmaster, justice of the peace, and was an elder in the Presbyterian church. He then moved to Monroe, Mi. and died at his farm on the south side of the River Raisin on Feb. 4, 1866. Harvey was married to Jane R. Austin. They had three sons; Harvey B., Henry Root, and Charles F., all of whom enlisted in the War of the Rebellion. The youngest son, Charles was killed at Malvern Hill, Virginia. The middle son Henry was employed in the United States mail service, and an elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Monroe. Harvey B. died in 1884.
