PARENTS: Israel Beach, Lois Hawley
SPOUSE: Hannah Edwards
Suggested edit: Elam Beach was born in Stratford, Fairfield Co, CT 21 Jun 1789, son of Israel Beach (Jr) and Lois Hawley. The gravesites of his parents are unknown, but the Stratford History books record Israel a resident of Bear Swamp in Stratford, CT, as do the land records. This writer contacted the Stratford historical society. There is no record of the exact location of Bear Swamp, but the Beach family including Israel Sr. can be found in many records and maps. Many in this lineage can be found buried in the Old Congregational Burial Grounds, Stratford. Israel Jr, however removed to Seneca Falls, along with many of his children and can be last found living with daughter Abigail Thompson in Madison, NY, and is said to have died there. His mother Lois, and sister Phebe, according to Hale records, died in Washington, Litchfield, CT 15 Mar and 12 Mar, 1813, respectively.
Returning to Elam, he was married to Hannah in Litchfield County, CT in 1817. Several records indicate he is travelling with many family members to Seneca County, NY, where they are in 1818. Elam, wife and children are found in Seneca County censuses from 1830 onward, living close by brother David and near several other Beach relatives. He is a farmer. His will was written and recorded in Seneca Falls, 7 Nov 1860 and proven 22 Mar 1867. A news article in The Auburn Bulletin 5 Apr 1902 reads "Seneca Falls. The Elam Beach house on the road to the lake was destroyed by fire yesterday, together with the contents..." Respectfully submitted Kelly M. Beach FAG contributor #48171947, descendant of Israel Beach and Lois Hawley and long time family researcher.
