ERNEST F BEHNKE

Ernest F. Behnke, 64, Brillion business man, died in his sleep Saturday at his home, 121 Dewey St. in that city. Funeral services will be at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Brillion. The Rev. V. J. Seigler will officiate and burial will be in the Brillion Community.

Mr. Behnke was born at Brillion June 1, 1892, son of the late August and Augusta Heimke Behnke. He operated a general merchandise store at Wells, south of Brillion until 1910. He married the former Alvina Jandrey Oct. 27, 1914, and then bought property on North Main Street in Brillion, present site of the Bessert Electric Co.

Mr. Behnke operated a general merchandise store at that location until 1929 at which time he purchased the Brillion Monument Works from A. E. Lau. He sold it to Van Gemert Co of DePere in 1946.

During World War II Mr. Behnke managed the Brillion Concrete Works, and after the war three sons, joined him in partnership in the Brillion Building Supply Co, in which Mr. Behnke was active until death.
He served as trustee of the village before its becoming a city for a number of years, and for 10 years was secretary of the Calumet County Sportsmen's Club.

Surviving are his wife, three sons, Wilbert, Ormen and Kenneth of Brillion; two daughters, Mrs. Jerome Becker of Neenah and Mrs. Elliot Wenzel of Appleton, a brother, Melvin Behnke of Brillion and seven grandchildren.
