Opelousas — Funeral services for Mrs. Olive Pitre Thoms, 98, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 31, 2006, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.

Rev. Dale Hensarling will conduct the services. Musical selections will be provided by Sharee Doucet Hunter and Kristen Hunter. Songs will include the Old Rugged Cross, Amazing Grace and On Eagle's Wings.

Mrs. Thoms was a resident of Rosa, LA, and died at 9:45 a.m. on Friday, December 29, 2006, at Senior Village Nursing Home in Opelousas. She was born in Waxia, LA, and was reared in Grand Prairie, LA. Mrs. Olive was a school teacher and a homemaker. She was a past member of the VFW Auxiliary Post #2483.

Survivors include two daughters: Eugenia T. "Genie" Doucet and spouse, Charles Roy "Choo Choo" Doucet of Grand Prairie; and Elizabeth T. "Betty" Dugal and spouse, Dr. George L. Dugal of Lafayette; one sister, Jeanette Pitre Doucet of Opelousas; nine grandchildren: Elizabeth A. Dugal, Linda Dugal Sylvester, George L. Dugal, Jr., Joseph Hicks Dugal, Matthew Gordon Bordelon, Genie Ann Sutton Newton, Darlene Sutton Doucet, Holly Sutton Buller, and Sara Bordelon Rice; and sixteen great grandchildren: Louis Austin Doucet III, Jeanette Newton, Melissa Newton Mayeaux, Amanda Newton, Christopher Newton, Casey Buller, Sammy Buller, Ross Buller, Faith Buller, Emma Bordelon, Erich Bordelon, Daniel Sylvester, Natalie Sylvester, Lawrence Dugal, Thomas Dugal, and Justin Perkins. She is also survived by five step grandchildren and numerous step great grandchildren.

Mrs. Thoms was preceded in death by her husband, Hicks Hilliard Thoms, her parents: Laurent Pitre and Eran Kimball Pitre; one daughter, Muriel Elgie T. Sutton; two brothers: Joseph Floyd Pitre and Lawrence Pitre; and three sons in law: Lionel "Tiny" Soileau, Gordon H. Bordelon, and Sammy Sutton.

Pallbearers will be Austin Doucet, Casey Buller, Christopher Newton, Daniel Sylvester, Matthew Bordelon, and Joseph Dugal. Honorary pallbearers will be Sammy Buller, George Dugal, Lawrence Dugal, Thomas Dugal, Erich Bordelon, and Ross Buller.

Visiting hours will be observed from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, December 30, 2006, in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Sunday, visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until the time of services.

A rosary will be recited on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
