Elizabeth A. (McCarthy) Ahaesy, 79
Worcester - Elizabeth A. (McCarthy)Ahaesy, 79, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2012.

She is survived by her children, Edmond J. II (Tag), James A. and his wife Gina, Mary M. Willis, and Matthew M. and his wife Dawn as well as her goddaughter, Sylvia M. Scanlon and her husband James. She also leaves 11 grandchildren, her sister in law, M. Jane McCarthy and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was born in Worcester daughter of the late Allen E. McCarthy Sr. and Elizabeth V. (Quaiel) McCarthy and lived her entire life in Worcester.

While proud of her Irish heritage she traced her ancestry to John Winthrop's Fleet of 1630 and was a 9th generation Worcester resident with ancestors settling here in the early 1720's. She attended Worcester schools then graduated from the Academy of Notre Dame Tyngsboro MA and Lasell College. She worked at the Worcester County Registry of Deeds before raising her family then returned to work at the former Age Center of Worcester and Memorial Hospital from where she retired. She served as the President of the Women's Guild of Blessed Sacrament Church, President of the Lasell Junior College Alumni Association of Worcester County, Secretary of the Cool Sandy Beach Association and Secretary of the CO-OP Square Dance Association. Betty spent her summers as a child on Long Island in Casco Bay Maine, then spent 25 summers at Hampton Beach and 25 summers at Cool Sand Beach in Rutland MA. She and her husband enjoyed square dancing and did it for many years before his illness. As a girl she enjoyed horseback riding and would share this interest with her daughter, attending all of Mary's horse show competitions. Betty also loved Anne Murray, Julie Andrews, Carol Burnett, Whoopi Goldberg, Joyce Meyer, and the Golden Girls. She had a great sense of humor and told a funny story. Betty was devoted to her family, caring for her mother and her husband through their 20 year illnesses. She was always there for her children and grandchildren and will be sadly missed.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Edmond J. Ahaesy Sr. in 1993, her brother Allen E. McCarthy Jr., her sister in law, Margaret M. Donoghue, and her brother in law, John T. Donoghue.

At her request there will be no calling hours. A Memorial Mass will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church, 353 Grove Street in Worcester on Saturday September 8, 2012 at 11 am.
