Mary Glatthorn Rieger was the wife of Brewery Magnate Leonhardt Rieger of Rieger-Gretz. She was at least 14 years younger than her husband. When Leonhardt died, in 1910, Mary went about taking care of all the Glatthorn family particularly during the Great Depression. All factions of the Glatthorns report that Mary would come around with her chauffer driven limousine, visit, provide transportation and financial help during that most difficult time. Later her daughter, Caroline Rieger (Carrie), would assume the role when her parents were gone.
Mary Rieger almost single-handedly purchased graves through-out Northwood Cemetery for her parents, siblings and many of the Glatthorn family. By all accounts she was a most generous, intelligent and benevolent lady.
