May 19, 1917 - "The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court in Brooklyn has set aside the judgment of $2,30 '0 obtained about a year ago by Jessie Loper of Patchogue , against Lucy J. Askin of Medford , for alienating the affections of her husband , Frank Loper , a prominent horseman and veterinarian of Patchogue. Mrs. Askin conducts a hotel at Medford and the case attracted wide attention at the time. It was tried at Riverhead before Justice Kelly and a jury in the Supreme Court. Mrs. Askin offered no defense at the trial and the Appellate Court holds that it was not necessary for her to do so, since Mrs. Loper did not make out a case at the trial. The Court also holds that Mrs. Askin did not know that Loper was a married man when she accepted his "admiration" and further that Loper was the "pursuer" and not Mrs. Askin. Counselor Carl J. Heyser of Mt. Sinai argued the appeal for Mrs. Askin and obtained the reversal of the judgment. Frank W. Shaw of Patchogue represented Mrs. Loper."
