Mrs. Bethany was born in Pensacola to Elmer B. and Inez Herrington Lloyd. She attended Escambia County Schools, graduating from Pensacola High School in 1943. She graduated from Florida State University in 1947 and received her Master's Degree in psychiatric social work in 1957. She began her career in the teaching profession and retired from Oliver J. Semmes Elementary school. For many years, she was a psychiatric social worker with the local alcoholic rehabilitation center. She was active in the Magnolia Garden club, was a member of the National Federation of Flower Show Judges and of the African Violet Society. She was a member of East Brent Baptist church.
