Funeral services were held from the Lyons Christian church at 10:00 o'clock Thursday morning with pastor Walter A Smith of the church, in charge. Interment was in the Graceland cemetery.
Mr Deeds was born in Greene county, Pennsylvania, July 8, 1854. Both his parents passed away before he was twelve years old and with a brother, John (Albert), he went to Ohio to live with relatives. He worked his way to Iowa as a young man and at Centerville completed his high school and commercial education.
He entered the mercantile business in Albany, Missouri, and shortly after, on June 4, 1879, was marrid to Miss Mary Jane Murphy. In 1880 they moved to Rice county, taking up residence on a farm north of Chase, now known as the C. T. Grizzell farm. Because of his wife's health they moved to Lyons where he established a mercantile business. She passed away several years later.
For a time he was engaged in the real estate business in Lyons, which he pursued for a number of years. He continued to live there until April 19, 1932, when he came to Sterling to reside with his daughter.
In addition to the daughter, there is one son, M. E. Deeds, of Lyons surviving. There are also two sisters, Mrs Anna Law, of Los Angeles and Mrs R. B. Carson, of Moulton, Iowa.
