Myrtle "Murt" White Letcher, 80, a lifelong resident in Sheridan and Box Butte counties passed away Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Box Butte General Hospital in Alliance, Nebraska. Murt was born in Box Butte County October 16, 1931 to Bill and Cora Dorris (Peeler) White. She grew up on the family ranch southeast of Alliance helping work cattle, haying and learning to sew from her mother. She graduated from St. Agnes Academy in 1949. She attended the Parks School of Business in Denver. Upon completion she returned to Alliance and worked for public accountants as a secretary/typist. Murt shared her life with her children, Vincent, Jared (Pam), Gwen (Chris) Lickteig and grandchildren Courtney and Arron Lickteig. She was a devoted mother and grandmother always willing to go out of her way to help. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren's school events. In later years Murt worked for KDUH in advertising, Palmer Monument in sales and was a Watkin's associate. Murt was not one who liked to sit around, so she also volunteered for numerous organizations such as the American Cancer Society, Carnegie Arts Center, Holy Rosary Parish and Meals on Wheels to name a few. Murt loved to travel and spent the last few years traveling around the country with her camper club pals. Murt had a tenacious spirit and a determination that would not let troubles slow her down. Her undaunting spirit to never give up has been an inspiration to her family and many others. Murt entered her eternal home with God the Father Saturday, September 1st. There to greet her were her parents Bill and Dorris, sister Cathy Payne and son Vincent. Memorial services will be held Friday, September 7 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father Lou Nollette officiating. Inurnment will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Wake services will be held Thursday, September 6 at 7:00 p.m. at the church.
