Mrs. MARTHA E. SMITH, widow of the late Martin L. Smith, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Graves, Locust Grove, Sunday evening from paralysis, aged 78 years, 4 months and 10 days. The following children survive: Mrs. Lawrence Poffenberger, Mrs. Fank Graves, Mrs. Greenberry Wright, all of Locust Grove; Mrs. Robert Jett and Mrs. Fred Boothe, both of Baltimore; Mrs. John Cline, Boonsboro; Charles, Keedysville; and Clarence, Eakle's Mill; sisters, Mrs. John Dick, Locust Grove; Mrs. Mary Brenner, Sharpsburg; and brother, Jacob Rohrer, this city; 45 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Eight grandsons of the deceased will act as pallbearers as follows: David Starleper, Ernest Ford, Ernest Smith, Ira Wright, Alvey Poffenberger, Clarence Graves, Arthur Smith and Charles Poffenberger.
Funeral services were held at the Lutheran Church at Locust Grove. Interment in the cemetery adjoining.
