Hollandsworth was born March 16, 1929, in Franklin County to James A. and Lillie Pearl Spencer Hollandsworth. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Oscar and William Hollandsworth; and three sisters, Nora Wolfe, Vergie Amos and Doris Cannady.
He was a World War II Army veteran who served in Germany. He worked for the Corps of Engineers during the construction of Philpott Dam and retired from American of Marion after 35 years constructing specialty wood furniture products for a number of furniture companies.
He was a member of Union Chapel Christian Church, a former member of the Bassett Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Jane Hollandsworth of Chilhowie; two sons, Benjamin and Perry Hollandsworth of Bristol, Tenn.; a stepson, Joel Clark of Manassas; three daughters, Connie Cassady, Renee Ashworth and Susan Walker, all of Bassett; two stepdaughters, Cheryl Grazier of Chilhowie and Cammie Hambrick of Ferrum; four brothers, Joseph, Wayne and Louis Hollandsworth, all of Bassett, and Carl Hollandsworth of California; two sisters, Ruby Adkins of Martinsville and Jean Cassell of Bassett; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
