Duke of Austria. He was born as the only son of Duke Albrecht IV and his wife, Johanna Sophie von Bayern. He was King of Hungary and Bohemia from 1437/38 until his death, succeeding his father-in-law, Emperor Sigismund. In 1438 was also unanimously elected King of the Romans but never entered the actual territory of the realm and was not crowned Holy Roman Emperor. He delegated all tasks related to the imperial government to his council and the members of the imperial chancellery. His grave was plundered by the Turks in 1543 and expired under their rule in the 17th century.
