John McLee of 1111 Chestnut street, who spent all of his fifty-three years in this vicinity and was widely known as a carpenter contractor and as widely held in high esteem answered the summons to the life beyond last evening after an illness of three weeks of spinal trouble.

Deceased was born in Rockford on March 6, 1867, the seventh child of John and Bridget Seaver McLee. He gained his education in the public schools of this city and began learning the carpenter’s trade when seventeen years of age, devoting the remainder of his life to the building industry and leaving many prominent residences and structures as monuments to his skill.

Mr. McLee was a member of Rockford council of the Knights of Columbus, of Rockford lodge of Elks, of the Modern Woodmen of America, of the Mystic Workers of the World and of the Rockford Motor club. He was a man of clean character and strict integrity who measured up to the highest standards as husband, father and citizen. His active and well ordered life was a valuable asset to the community in which his years were spent and his passing will be mourned by a host of friends who loved him for his piety and worth.

Besides the widow, Mrs. Mary Cosgrove McLee; he is survived by two children, Miss Frances and Bernard McLee, three brothers, Lawrence, Thomas J. and Richard McLee and a sister, Mrs. James Tynan.
