THE GADSDEN TIMES:
George Black, 802 Slack Street died in a local hospital at 1:15 a.m. after an extended illness. Survivors, wife, Mrs. Irene Stokes Black, and several nieces and nephews. Service tomorrow 2 p.m. with Dr. Oscar Davis officiating and burial Forrest Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral Home directing. Mr. Black was a native of Carnoustie, Scotland and a resident of Etowah County, Alabama since 1919. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Gadsden, E.K. Handy Sunday School Class and Men's Brotherhood. Mr. Black built the Gadsden Country Club Golf Course and a number of other courses. He owned and operated Briarmeade Golf Course which was purchased by Gulf Steel YMCA and where he continued to manage and serve as golf pro until his retirement in 1968.
