Peg was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and was the daughter of the late Edward and Mary Kathryn (Grennan) Cooney.
She was the sister of Ann "Terri" Harris of Lincoln, and Daniel Cooney of CA..
Peg spent many happy years in Smith Hill volunteering alongside her husband Ed running canteens, various charity events and CYO functions for the benefit of St. Patrick's Parish. She was named Diocesan CYO Woman of the Year in 1962.
She lived in North Providence prior to moving to Narragansett where she was an active member of the St. Thomas More Parish.
Peg was the Administrative Assistant to the Reverend Robert C. Newbold at the R.I. Interscholastic League from 1968-1978.
After retirement, Peg enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends, especially her beloved grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she leaves three children, Kathryn Garrahy-Serrecchia and her husband David of North Kingstown and their children Sean(Cara) and Scott(Talia); Pattie Garrahy-Robertson and her husband Bryan of South Dartmouth, MA. and their children Laura and Sarah; and one son Ted Garrahy and his wife Tricia of East Greenwich and their children Patrick, Ian and Conor. She had two great grandchildren, Mia and Luca Serrecchia; and many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral was held on Thursday in the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, Warwick. A. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday, March 22 at St. Veronica Chapel, Narragansett, R.I.
Burial followed in St. Francis Cemetery, Peace Dale, South Kingstown.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Peg's memory to St. Patrick's Academy, 244 Smith St. Providence, R.I. 02908 will be greatly appreciated.
