Norma Warner Shamess passed gently into the presence of the Lord on the 11th day of September, 2012. She was born on the 3rd day of March, 1917 in Wells, Texas, to Thomas B. Warner and Carrye Warner.

Norma was a member of the Greatest Generation and exhibited all the strong and honorable qualities of that age. After graduating from Wells High School and business college in Tyler, she was married to George N. Shamess. Norma was widowed in December 1945 when her husband died as a result of injuries sustained in the War. She was left to expect their only child, who was to be born the following April. Norma persevered through all. She then began her long-time employment with the U.S. Department of Agriculture where, until her retirement, she was a valued and dedicated employee for the Farmers Home Administration in Nacogdoches, Texas. Norma will be remembered as a person of great strength, faith, compassion, generosity and character. She was a mentor to many and an example to all. She was a most wonderful mother, sister and grandmother and provided the utmost love and devotion to her family. She was a faithful member of the Falvey Memorial United Methodist Church. Norma was a very special person and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She was truly one of a kind.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas B. Warner and Carrye Warner; her stepmother, Nettie Warner; her husband, George N. Shamess; and her beloved sister, Bonnie N. Warner.

She is survived by daughter, George Ann Carmichael; and her beloved grandson, Scott W. Carmichael and his wife, Kimberly Carmichael.

Pallbearers will be Ross Hicks, Blake Bailey, Roy Joe Bailey, Don Lawrence, Reverend Grant Hanes and Larry Bailey. Honorary pallbearers will be James Edwards, Roy White and Jim Horton. Memorials in Mrs. Shamess memory may be made to the Falvey Memorial United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 40, Wells, Texas 75976.

Mrs. Shamess family wishes to thank her caregivers, Vennie M. Curtis, Paula Horton, Tameka Ballard, Kathy Foster and Therese Lonergan for the loving care, companionship and comfort they provided and also Dr. B.W. Henderson for his care and friendship as well as the staff at Bethany Home Healthcare. They made it possible for Mrs. Shamess to remain content at her home in Wells during her final years. The Warner sisters are once again united and all is well. 'And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.' Ps. 23:6.
