MARY POTTER CRANE IS DEAD.
Prominent Worker in Local Charities, Especially Those for Protection of Women and Children.

Mary Potter Crane, wife of Simeon H. Crane, died yesterday morning at her residence, 4545 Greenwood avenue, after an illness extending several months. Mrs. Crane was an active, practical worker in charities, being President of the Protective Agency for Women and Children. She was President of the Illinois Commandery, Dames of the Loyal Legion. She was also a member of the Ladies' Friendly Aid Society, and a director of the Half-Orphan Asylum, of which she had been President. She was a member of the Chicago Woman's club, and the Chicago Chapter, Daughters of the Revolution.

The work which Mrs. Crane undertook was of a character requiring personal effort. As President of the Protective agency she directed the efforts made to protect women and children against unjust lawsuits and to defend them. Her interest in such charitable work dates almost from the time of her arrival in Chicago in 1865.

Mrs. Crane was born in Penn's Valley, Pa., fifty-six years ago. She was married in Madison, Ind., to Simeon H. Crane. Mr. Crane and their only child, Marie Potter Crane, survives her. The funeral will take place at 3 p.m. today at the residence. The burial will be at Madison, Ind.
