He was born Jan. 4, 1917, in Margaretville, the son of Claude and Iva (Finch) Barkman.
He married Rose (LiPuma) Barkman Nov. 14, 1964, in Pennsylvania. She survives, as do a daughter, Janet (Edwin) Brainerd, Prattsville; a son Wayne (Gail) Barkman of Tennessee; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 12 stepgreat-grandchildren; three brothers; a sister; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A daughter, Linda Lee Barkman; five brothers; and two great-grandchildren predeceased him.
A lifelong area resident, Mr. Barkman was a World War II veteran and member of the American Legion, Donald W. Gleason Post No. 190.
A dairy farmer in East Meredith, he had also been employed at Agway in Delhi and, after retirement, for the Delaware County Highway Department.
Ken was a charter member of the East Meredith Fish and Game Club holding membership for 30 years, as well as a member of the Bloomville Fire Department. He was an avid outdoorsman who thoroughly enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
Calling hours will take place on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, from 2 to 9 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart. The family will be in attendance from 5 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will take place on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Anthony Ligato officiating at the funeral home.
Burial will take place in the spring at Harpersfield Cemetery, Harpersfield.
