HAROLD H. BACKS, 83, Neptune, died at 11:39 a.m. July 24, 2004, at Lima Memorial Hospital.
He was born Feb. 14, 1921, in Mercer County to A.J. and Elizabeth Guggenbiller Backs, who preceded him in death. On Jan. 26, 1946, he married Gertrude Holtman, who died April 27, 1998.
Mr. Backs retired from Lima Locomotive Works after 40 years of service. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5713, both in Celina. He was also a member of the American Legion, Loyal Order of Moose and the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include a son, Dave (Connie) Backs of Sarasota, Fla.; a daughter, Connie (Keith) Buschur of Montezuma; three brothers, Robert (Jeannie) Backs of Marion, Ind., Paul (Ruth) Backs of St. Henry and Maurice (Sandy) Backs of St. Joe; two sisters, Alice (John) Fiely of Marion, Ind., and Bernice (Doc) Kaup of Fort Recovery; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two
sisters-in-law, Ruth Backs and Frieda Backs.
He was preceded in death by Art and Don Backs.
Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina. Father Thomas Brenberger will officiate. Burial will be in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cisco Funeral Home, Celina. Memorial contributions may be made to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Endowment Fund or the American Heart Association.
