Susan Ann Levesque, age 88, of Pascagoula passed away on Friday, Sept. 1, 2012. She was born to the late George and Matilda Nedella on October 11, 1923 in Shields, ND. Susan graduated from Nisland High School in 1943 as the class valedictorian and recipient of the "I Dare You" award. She enlisted in the U.S. Navy WAVE program and served at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Maryland during WWII.
She met her spouse, William Levesque, at Patuxent River and they married on September 15, 1944 in the station chapel, St. Nicholas Catholic Church. After WWII ended, they settled in Millinocket, ME and raised a family of six children with relocations to Dothan, AL and Childersburg, AL before moving to Pascagoula, MS in 2005.
Susan was a devoted homemaker and gave her family the love and support they needed to be successful in their jobs, educational pursuits and sporting events. She was a person of strong faith and contributed much of her time and talent as church sacristan and ladies guild member.
She was an avid sports fan, loving all sports. In her youth, she played on softball, basketball, and bowling teams. In later years, she won many local golf tournaments associated with the Women's Golf Association of the Coosa Pines Golf Club in Childersburg, AL and in 1985, captained the Alabama championship team that competed in the American Cancer Society National Golf Tournament. She loved playing competitive card games and traveling. She loved her county and was a charter member of the Women's War Memorial and the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC and the World War II Museum in New Orleans, LA.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Anne Kiel, Rose Kiel, Gustina Eide and Emma Nedella; her brothers, Leonard and John Nedella.
Left to cherish her memories are her husband of 68 years, William Levesque of Pascagoula; six children, Kenneth and his wife Debbie of Melbourne, FL; Michael and his wife Diana of Fairhope, AL; Patrick and his wife Velma of Charlotte, NC; Gregory and his wife Tina of Ohatchee, AL; Karin of Pascagoula, MS and Sharon and her husband Tim of Hockessin, DE; six grandchildren, Kim Daigle, Christopher Levesque, Lessa Levesque, Bill Levesque, Billie Cheeks and David Libert; four great grandchildren, Kristin Daigle, Jayla Cheeks, Trent Cheeks and Leo Goodenough; four brothers, Matthew, Anthony, Jerry and George; one sister, Eva Delaney and many relatives and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, 11:00am, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Gautier, MS. She will be buried at Biloxi National Cemetery, March 23, 2024, !0:00 a.m.
