William Johnson, 91, Dies; Rites Thursday
Funeral services for William (Bill) Johnson, 91, 618 W. 11th, who died Monday evening in the Grand Island hospital, will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Apfel - Butler - Geddes Funeral Home, with the Rev. Harvey Clark, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church officiating.

Visitation hours are 3 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday. Internment will be in the Grand Island Cemetery.

A retired businessman, although active up to the last, Mr. Johnson escaped from a furniture store fire in Grand Island in 1909 which took the life of Mr. Miller.

William Johnson was born Oct. 26, 1878, on a farm six miles east of Grand Island in Merrick County, the son of Hans and Sophia (Goettsch) Johnson. He attended rural school in Merrick County and began farming as a young man.

On June 22, 1901, he was married to Miss Minnie Pedersen at the Johnson family farm home. They made their home on a farm just north of the Johnson home farm, where they resided until 1908, when they moved to Grand Island.

He was employed in 1908 by the Miller and Gorman Furniture store until 1916 when they returned to the farm east of Grand Island, remaining there until 1942. they returned to the Third City to retire.

While in retirement in the city, he operated an upholstery shop at his home and repaired venetian blinds.

He fell Sept. 5 and fractured his hip and had been hospitalized since. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, I.O.O.F. Lodge No. 22, Rebekah Lodge and Danish Brotherhood in Grand Island.

Survivors include three sons, Clarence, Albert and Pete all of Grand Island; three daughters, Mrs. Albert (Cecilia) Snyder, Mrs. Fred (Sophia) Niemoth and Mrs. Hans (Ida) Priess; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Peter of Grand Island' four sisters, Miss Hilda Johnson and Mrs. James (Clara) Richards of Bend, Ore., Mrs. Earl (Sophia) Humphrey of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Mrs. Carrie Momson of Grand Island.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie, grandson, Paul, three sisters and a brother.
