The death of this well-known Bath county man was announced by a telegram received here Wednesday morning. He was a man advanced in years and had been in ill health for several years. Mr. McLaughlin was the father of W. C. McLaughlin, of Mill Gap, and an uncle of R. Lee Gum, of Monterey, Va

IN NEIGHBORING COUNTIES
Mr. Harper McLaughlin, Confederate Veteran, and large Stock Dealer, died last week at his home on Jacksons River in Bath County. He was buried Friday at Warm Springs. He was an uncle of Dr. Henry W. McLaughlin of New Providence church.

Born at Marlinton, Pocahontas County, Virginia (Now West Virginia)

Company I, 19th Virginia Cavalry, Jackson's Brigade, Lomax's Division, Valley District, Dept. of Northern Virginia, C.S.A.

Enlisted for the duration of the war on 4/1/1864 at Huntersville, VA., he was mustered into Company I, 19th Virginia Cavalry, as a Private.
Present on all Rolls through end of war.

The 19th Cavalry Regiment was formed in April, 1863, using the 3rd Regiment Virginia State Line as its nucleus. It confronted the Federals in western Virginia. Later the unit took part in the operations in the Shenandoah Valley and disbanded during April, 1865.
