Wendell Ashworth, 87, of Dalton, GA, died Friday morning, August 16, 2013 at Hamilton Medical Center with family by his side.

Wendell was born September 10, 1925 in Ranger, GA, a son of the late Jasper Bartow and Myrtle Barkesdale Ashworth, and was a member of the Dalton First Baptist Church. Wendell served in World War II, landing at Omaha Beach. Wendell received the Purple Heart with an Oak Leave Cluster, Bronze Star along with a Silver Star for his service. After the war, Wendell returned to Dalton and worked for Gregory Printing Company and was co-founder of Tufted Sample Company.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dee Ette Ashworth; and brother and sister-in-law, J.B. and Elsie Ashworth.

Wendell is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Lane and Debbie Ashworth of Dalton; daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Doug Peters of Dalton; grandchildren, Brandon and Nicki Peters, Spencer Peters and Ashley Peters all of Dalton; and nephew, Carson and Elizabeth Ashworth of Alpharetta.

Funeral service for Mr. Ashworth will be Tuesday, August 20 at 2 p.m. at the Dalton First Baptist Church with Dr. Billy Nimmons and the Rev. Phillip Cannon officiating. Burial will follow in Whitfield Memorial Gardens.
