A Mass of Christian burial for Gene R. ("Barrel") LaFave, 38, of 65 Pleasant Ave. was celebrated by Msgr. Edmund Dumas, parochial vicar, at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Alphonsus Church, and interment was in St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Mr. LaFave died at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 24 at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse where he had been a patient since November 14. He had been in failing health since June. He was born in Tupper Lake on January 31, 1949, a son of Raymond and Beatrice King LaFave, and was graduated from Tupper Lake High School in 1967. He had been employed at Adirondack Tool and Supply Auto Parts here during the past two years. An avid bowler and sportsman, he was active in the men's Monday Night Bowling League and the Monday Night Twilight League of the Tupper Lake Country Gub, Tupper Lake and Saranac Lake Softball Leagues, and the Gale Hunting Club. Surviving are his wife, the former Wendy Wilber, to whom he was married here on April 21, 1984; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond LaFave, Tupper Lake; one daughter, Gena LaFave and one son, Michael LaFave, both of Syracuse; two brothers, Bruce LaFave of Virginia Beach, Va. and Randy LaFave, Tupper Lake; two sisters, Karen Haywood and Mrs. Stephen (Wendy) Danforth, both of Tupper Lake; and nieces and nephews. Arrangements were with the Rennell Funeral Home. Friends may make memorial contributions to the Tupper Lake Emergency Squad.
