Russell Glenn Ballard, age 83 of Monroe, died on Thursday morning, September 1, 2011 at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Monroe. Russell was born March 28, 1928 to Arie and Hilda (Lofgren) Ballardon on a farm between Gratiot and Dunbarton. Later, his parents moved to Blanchardville and Russell attended the Loyalty Rural School and helped on the farm. After joining the U.S Army, Russell traveled the world for nine years, and was a Korean War veteran who served in the Medical Core, and drove an ambulance. After returning home, Russell farmed and then moved to Argyle where he worked for Argyle Industries for 13 years, then worked at Baumgartner's, Corner Cafe and Chopsticks restaurants in Monroe. Russell enjoyed fishing, bowling, karaoke, country music, and singing. He was a member of the Monroe VFW and Grace Lutheran Church in Monroe.



Russell is survived by his brother Howard (Evelyn) Ballard, Loves Park, IL; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Arie and Hilda (Lofgren) Ballard, sisters Alice Anderson, Betty Weier and Evelyn (as a child), and brothers Sanford, Orville, Burnell, Harold and Glen (at age 2).



A Visitation will be held at the Saether Funeral Home in Blanchardville on Wednesday morning, September 7, 2011 from 9:30 until 11:30 AM. Funeral Services will be held at the Saether Funeral Home in Blanchardville following the visitation. Rev. John Tabaka of the Grace Lutheran Curch in Monroe will officiate.
