Hattie was born in Murray County, Chandler, Minn., to William and Henrietta (Van De Voort) Kleyer and grew up in that area. She was baptized and confirmed in the Chandler Reformed Church and attended rural District 47 School in Murray County.
On Aug. 30, 1940 Hattie married Peter H. Tinklenberg. The couple had four children. Following service in World War II the family moved to the Milaca area and became members of the Christian Reformed Church of Pease. Hattie was an active member in the Ladies Aid as well as the Mother's Club of the Christian School.
On Dec. 28, 1978 she married Arvid Johnson of Sacred Heart, Minn. They were active members of Hawk Creek Lutheran Church and Hattie became involved in Ladies Aid and Magdaline Circle. In May of 1984 they moved to Granite Falls, Minn.
Following Arvid's death, Hattie returned to the Milaca area. She has been a resident of the Elim Home for the past three years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister; husbands, Peter Tinklenberg and Arvid Johnson; sister, Bertha DeGrote; and daughter-in-law, Pam Tinklenberg.
