Myrtle C. (Mernie) Seibert passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2008, at the Oneonta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Oneonta, N.Y. after an extended illness. Mernie was born in Cadosia, New York on February 11, 1921, the thirteenth child of Frank and Hattie (Schaeffer) Crosby.

Mernie graduated from Hancock Central School in 1938. She married Robert D. Seibert of Hancock, N.Y. on September 15, 1940. He predeceased her on January 21, 1982. Mernie and Bob Seibert were lifelong residents of Walton, N.Y. She was also predeceased by her 12 brothers and sisters.

Mernie is survived by her son and his partner; her daughter and son-in-law. She is also survived by her three grandchildren. She has three great-grandchildren.

Mernie Seibert was a successful business woman throughout her life. She created Catskill Travel, Inc. of Walton, N.Y. in partnership with Becky Paternoster in May of 1960. She operated the business for over 35 years. At the height of her business career, Catskill Travel operated sales offices in Walton, Sidney, Oneonta and Cooperstown, N.Y. She was a member of the American Society of Travel Agents, the Airline Reporting Corporation and the Cruise Lines International Association. She traveled throughout the world independently and with her husband and partner in life, Bob Seibert. She was selected as a member of the prestigious, Who's Who Among American Women.

Mernie was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Walton. Mernie especially enjoyed her family life, celebrating the holidays and family birthdays with a special flair. She especially enjoyed "Jazz and Music" with her husband, Bob Seibert, a renowned local jazz musician.

Calling hours for family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 101 North Street, Walton, N.Y. on Saturday, September 27, 2008. A service of Resurrection and Hope to celebrate the life of Mernie Seibert will be held immediately following the calling hours at 12 noon, the Reverend Mark DelGuidice officiating. A memorial luncheon will follow the service.

Interment at the Riverview Cemetery in Hancock, N.Y. will take place at 3:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the FUMC, ROBERT SEIBERT MEMORIAL YOUTH FUND, care of the First United Methodist Church, 101 North Street, Walton, N.Y. 13856.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of the Oneonta Nursing and Rehabilitation Canter for their special care and support throughout her residency. Funeral arrangements are by the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, Sidney, N.Y.
