DAN COLLINS
Dan Collins came to North America America in 1862 aboard the Moravian. After working on the east coast in mining he moved Illinois and then settled in Joplin, MO in 1872. He was one of the earliest pioneers when Joplin was no more than a rough mining camp.

Mr. Collins was married three times. In 1968 he married Anne Collins in New York. She came to Joplin with him where she passed away sometime prior to the fall of 1890. Their adopted daughter, Matilda Collins passed away in 1900. His second marriage was to Etta Hollingshead in September of 1890. That marriage ended a short while later in a very sensational divorce. In 1893 he married Mattie Verling and she remained his wife until his death in 1903.

Dan Collins was known for his many business interests including his livery and stage coach business, mining interests, real estate holdings, part ownership of the Joplin Globe and bringing the first circus to Joplin, MO.
