Death of Mrs. Cooke

Died, at her home four miles south of this city, Mrs. Helen M. Cooke, wife of James V. Cooke, aged sixty years. She was the daughter of Dr. John F. and Mary M. Edwards. She was born July 1st, 1843, in Macon county, Mo.; was married in this city February 15th, 1869. In 1872 they came from Mississippi and began farming and lived continuously upon the same place where she died. They had ten children born to them, three dying in infancy The second son, James Walter, aged 19 years, died in 1897. All of them are buried in our city cemetery. Besides her husband she leaves two sons, Dr. F. and Vincent Cooke, and four daughters, Mrs. F. Goodbrake, Alice, Fannie, and Virgie Cooke. She was converted early in life at Boeon Chapel, Shelby county, Mo., and joined the Methodist church, South, of which church her parents were members. A devoted wife and mother, she did her part well and has gone to her reward.
