Sarah Pierce married Hiram Buffum in Ashtabula, OH on 6 Dec 1821.
They had 11 children:

Carlos came to Oregon with his Aunt & Uncle, William G & Caroline Buffum in 1845, pioneers of the Oregon Trail to the Barlow Road from The Dalles to Oregon City. They settled in Yamhill Co, OR.
Sarah and Hiram came along the Oregon Trail & on to Oregon City via the Barlow Road later in 1847. Children who came with them or who at least ended up in Yamhill Co are Hiram B, Phebe, Celestia and William.
Her husband, Hiram, met his death while on the Raft River in ID and was buried along the trail in 1847. Sarah continued on to meet up with relatives already living in Yamhill Co in OR.
In the 1870 US Census of Yamhill Co, she is living with her son, William, & she was a member of the Christian Church.
Eventhough her full name is not on her headstone in Amity Cemetery of Yamhill Co, research leads to this conclusion.
The headstone reads: "Grandma Buffum died 1872".
