SWAINSBORO - Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Alice Lanier Rich, age 78, of Swainsboro, GA on Sunday, September 23, 2012 at the Georgia Health Sciences after a brief illness. Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 26th, at 11 AM in the Antioch Primitive Baptist Church with Dr. Robert Blankenship officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Rich will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 PM. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary escorts will be members of the Trailblazers Sunday School Class; Bill and Lynn English; Al and Martha Jane Lawson; Charles and Jackie Drake, Bobby Sasser and Fayette Chance. Mrs. Rich was born in Emanuel County to John A. and Blanche Turner Lanier. She graduated from Emanuel County Institute and in 1952 married her first love, Charlie Roy Griswold. While he served his country with the US Army they traveled and she raised their three children. After his passing in 1967, she met the second love of her life, W. Frank Rich, they married in 1969 and three children became five and she spent the rest of her life being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. An avid fisherman, she had a sixth sense of catching fish. She could fill the boat with fish when no one else got a bite. She loved to play bridge. Mrs. Rich was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Traiblazers Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Jerome Lanier, a half-sister, Ouise Drew, and three half-brothers, Leo, John Pappy and Fred Lanier and a son-in-law, Wendell Durden. Survivors include: Her Husband: W. Frank Rich of Swainsboro, GA; Three Daughters: Zebe G Durden, Zan G Smith (George) of Swainsboro, GA and Teresa Percival (Chuck) of Ainsworth, NE; Two Sons: Billy Rich (Debra) and Lanier Griswold (Joy) of Swainsboro, GA; 14 Grandchildren: Dustin Durden (Sherrie), Alice S Marchman (Britt), Nate Smith, Blanton Shepherd, Ryan Shepherd, Retha Reagan, Josh Reagan, Chris Cumbee, Adam Cumbee, Hana R. Moorman, Roy Griswold, Jordan Griswold, Katie Griswold, Buck Griswold; 13 Great-Grandchildren: Daniel Durden, Abigail Durden, Samuel Durden, Luke Marchman, Jack Marchman, Cierra Shepherd, Alex Ochs, Halle Shepherd, William Reagan, Silas Reagan, Raelynn Reagan, Aaden Cumbee and Hanley Moorman. Memorial Contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 828, Swainsboro, Ga. 30401; and Antioch Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, % J. W.
