Martin Frank Barberio, 87, of Jones Street, Wilkes-Barre, passed away, Friday, September 21, 2012.

He was a resident of Little Flower Manor, Wilkes-Barre and a member of St. Andrew's Parish (St. Patrick's Church) Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, April 28, 1925, he was a son of the late Antonio and Mary Autunno Barberio of Wilkes-Barre.

Marty attended G.A.R. High School and later joined the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was employed by the PA Railroad, by Ryman Lumber Company and later Leggett and Platt Lumber until he retired.

In the 1940s Marty was an amateur welterweight boxer, who fought under the name "Marty Barber" for Joe Rodano's young men's club, and traveled the East Coast.

Martin was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Clare Murphy Barberio, in March of 2011. He was also preceded by brothers, John, Vincent, Jerry, Joseph and Anthony.

He is survived by two daughters, Mary Clare Keithline and her husband, Francis, Wilkes-Barre and Joanne Blaum and her husband, Frank, Wilkes-Barre. Pop-Pop has five grandchildren, Cheryl Ann Murphy and her husband, Mark of Douglassville, Pa.; Francis Martin Keithline and his wife, Michelle, of Oxford, Conn., Martin Keithline and his wife, Victoria, of Upper Marlboro, Md.; Jennifer Polemitis and her husband, Yuannis, of Wilkes-Barre, Amanda Blaum of Wilkes-Barre; 11 great-grandchildren, Mark, Caitlin, Shawn, Devan and Shannon Murphy of Douglassville, Christopher and Samantha Keithline of Oxford, Yuannis and Victoria Polemitis of Wilkes-Barre and Antonio and Shae Lynn Warren of Upper Marlboro. Martin is also survived by a brother, Frank, of Kingston; two sisters, Florence Walkowiak of Wilkes-Barre and Anna Marie Vitale of Nanticoke; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Marty was an avid Yankees fan, a race horse fan and he and his many friends enjoyed handicapping the races. His favorite story was about going to New York with his friends to a track and ending up near Woodstock. They could not believe what they were seeing.

His family would like to thank the doctors, especially Dr. Patrick Kerrigan, Dr. Juan DeRojas, nurses, sisters, aides and everyone who helped with his care at Little Flower Manor. A special "Thank you" to Father Ghezzi for all his time just listening, he certainly did enjoy those visits.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 1 p.m. in the Chapel at Little Flower Manor, 200 S. Meade St., Wilkes-Barre.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Friends may call from noon until time of service at Little Flower.

Arrangements are by the Lehman Family Funeral Service Wilkes-Barre.
