Joseph was the youngest of thirteen known children of Johannes (went by John) Rothrock Jr. (1716-1794) and Maria Kreiling (1728-1810), who married c1737 in presumably Pennsylvania. It is not known where John is buried.
Joseph first married to Nancy (last name unkown, went by Anna) in c1793 at presumably North Carolina. Joseph and Anna were the parents of ten known children, namely:

2. Abraham Rothrock (1796-1870)
3. Isaac Rothrock (1798-1872)
4. Mary Rothrock Hanawalt (1801-1885)
5. Asenath Rothrock Price (1802-1892)

8. Susanna Rothrock Beshoar (1809-1847)
9. Elizabeth Rothrock Amick (1811-1894)

After Anna died, Joseph remarried to the widow Barbara Palmer Sell (177-1867), but had no known additional children.
