Duchess of Mercoeur and Vendôme. Daughter of Geronima and Lorenzo Mancini, twinsister of Michele Paolo Mancini. She was the first of the seven nieces of Cardinal Mazarin that were brought from Rome to Paris. Mazarin wanted to marry his nieces into different houses to reconcile them with him. She was raised, together with her cousins and sisters and the young King Louis XIV. at the Palais Royal in Paris under the watchful eyes of the Queen mother Anna. In 1651, during the Fronde, Mazarin was banned and had to flee from France. Louis of Mercoeur, grandson of King Henri IV. signed the marriage contract anyway, despite what the other noble men suggested. Their personalities were similar and the marriage seems to have been very happy. When her husband was away she either lived in Paris or the Chateau d'Anet. She gave birth to Louis Joseph, who died 1712 in Spain and Philippe became Grandprior of the Knights of Malta. Laura died while giving birth to her third son Jules Cesar. She was greatly mourned by her husband who became a monk and pursued a clerical career. He died as Cardinal and was buried in Vendôme.
