Funeral services for Irene (Benz) Blackwell, 87, 1300 N. Canal St., are pending at Denton Funeral Home. She died at a local nursing home Tuesday.
Mrs. Blackwell was born in Illinois and was a resident in Eddy County for over 60 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Order of Eastern Star #54, and Rebekahs #13. She also was a Sunday School teacher for many years.
She is survived by one son, Clarence Benz, Big Springs, Texas; one step-son, Eugene Benz, Carlsbad; four daughters, Opal Funk and Gladys Wiseman, both of Carlsbad, Georgia De Young, Portland, Ore., and Edythe Gibson, Bethel, Wash.; two sisters, Verna Bailey, Lone Oak, Texas, and Fay Sides, Calif.; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services for Irene (Benz) Blackwell, 87, 1300 N. Canal St., will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church. Burial will follow in the Carlsbad Cemetery with an Eastern Star Graveside Service. Officiating will be the Rev. Brenton Haworth of First Christian Church of Carlsbad and the Rev. Errol Stepp of First Christian Church, Hobbs. She died Tuesday at a local nursing home.
Pallbearers will be Bill Reel, Earl Waters, Elzy Thompson, Bill Huffsmith, Bob Akin, Bill Goddard, James May, and Johnny Hinds.
