Mariya arrived in Canada in 1902 in the company of her father, Henry and her siblings Anton and Sophie when she was 10 years old. She met and married Jacob Muller (Miller), a locksmith, at the tender age of 15 in 1907. Jacob was the brother-in-law of Mariya's eldest brother Peter and 10 years her senior. They had six children, 3 sons and 3 daughters and lived in the farming district of Limerick, Saskatchewan.

She died at the young age of 36 and was originally buried in the Limerick Cemetery. Her body was moved from Limerick, Saskatchewan to Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery in Regina, Saskatchewan and buried with her husband,Jacob, after his death in 1962.
