Sister Catherine Duignan, O.P., who taught at several schools in the archdiocese, died June 25 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern. She was 85.

In the Bronx, she taught at Aquinas High School, 1978-1988; St. Ann's School, 1977-1978; and St. Helena's, 1955-1958 and 1966-1977. She also taught at Sacred Heart School, Monroe, 1965-1966; Sacred Heart, Suffern, 1960-1964; and Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Middletown, 1958-1960.

From 1989 to 1993, Sister Catherine served as a parish secretary and then in pastoral service, 1993-2004, at St. Vito parish in Mamaroneck. From 2005 to 2011 she was a receptionist at Dowling Gardens in Sparkill. She did local community service at Dominican Convent in Sparkill until her death.

Born in County Leitrim, Ireland, she came to the United States at age 17. She entered the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill in 1950 and made final vows in 1957.

She earned a bachelor's degree in education from St. Thomas Aquinas College in New York and a master's in reading from Manhattan College.

Her sister, Margaret McKeon, survives her.

A Funeral Mass was offered June 30 at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel at Dominican Convent in Sparkill. Burial was at St. Agnes Cemetery in Sparkill.
