Funeral services for Houston Taylor, retired farmer of the Mercer Community, were at 3:00 PM today (October 25, 1974) in the chapel of Lanier Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Alvin Gilliand. Burial was in Maple Springs Cemetery near Mercer, TN.

Mr. Taylor, 71, died at 11:00 AM Thursday in Haywood Park Hospital in Brownsville after a long illness.

He was born in the Mercer community, son of the late Robert Lee and Mary Ophelia Leathers Taylor, and attended Madison County public schools. His entire life had been spent in Madison County where he was engaged in farming until his retirement in 1968.

Mr. Taylor and his wife moved to Brownsville (Haywood County), TN in 1972 and lived there until his death.

He was a member of the Maple Springs Baptist Church in Mercer, TN.

On January 12, 1921 he married Miss Mary Vesta "Sissie" Ford Taylor who survives him.

In addition to his widow Mary Vesta "Sissie" Ford Taylor, he leaves a daughter, Mrs. Edmond (Elsie) Melton of Medon; a brother, Vester Taylor of Denmark; two sisters, Mrs. G. W. (Hattie Pearl Taylor) Pentecost and Mrs. Robert Taylor (Nannie Evelyn Taylor) Curlin, both of Jackson and three grandchildren (James Harold Melton, Barbara Ann Melton Lewis and Deborah Sue Melton Ditto).
