Benjamin was a private in the American Revolution. He was in the Battle of Long Island, in 1776. Afterwards his regiment marched to Fort Washington where they stayed three months. The regiment then marched to White Plains and were pursued by the British. From White Plains his regiment marched to Ft. Lee but were diverted due to the fort being captured by the British.

In 1778, while on another tour he was captured by the British and was interred in the notorious Sugar House Prison in NYC for 3-4 months and was transferred to Provo jail for seven weeks, then transferred back to Sugar House where he remained for a long time before being exchanged for a captured British soldier. He was at the Battles of Springfield and Piscataway and was at Bound Brook and Second River.

Benjamin was the second son of Isaac and Sara Giddes Coddington/Carrington. He married Hannah Coon the winter of 1781/1782 in Bernards Twp., Somerset Co., NJ (Am. Rev. Pension statement). They had eight children:

5. Aaron Coddington (1796-1852)
