Mother and Baby die same day of tuberculosis.

Lula Pearl Lewis was married in 1923 to Herbert Martin Smith, son of Harrison Novel Smith and Arabelle Martin Smith of Barren County. Pearl and their 4 month old son, Herbert Jr., died the same day, 2 Aug 1926, both of pulmonary tuberculosis. She and Herbert had one older child, a son: Albert Marvin Smith (1924-1995) who married Grace. Pearl's sister Janie Byrdie Lewis Smith later became Herbert's second wife.

OBITUARY:
Mrs Herbert Smith [Lula Pearl Lewis], age 24, one of the most beloved young ladies of the Beckton section, died Monday night at her home there. A child [Herbert Martin Smith, Jr] preceded his mother in death only a few hours on the same day. Mrs Smith is survived by her husband, one son, and a number of brothers and sisters. Her untimely death caused much sorrow and grief over the county.
