Jonas Ainley died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Geo. Hammerly, in this city, Monday, Aug. 19th, 1895, Aged 78 years, 10 months and 24 days. The deceased was in his usual health up to Friday morning last. He had just eaten his breakfast and was in the act of lighting his pipe when he received a stroke of paralysis, and his head dropped forward on his breast. He never spoke afterward. He was removed to his bed and continued to breath until early Monday morning when the feeble spark went out. Jonas Ainley was born at Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England, Sept. 25, 1816. Was married to Ellen Thornton in 1836. He removed to America in 1843 and lived in Massachusetts until the year 1867 when he came to Iowa. His wife, Ellen Ainley, died May 28, 1859, at Blackington, Mass. Twelve children were born to them. He married again in 1874 to Elizabeth Wadsworth who died in 1892. Five sons and four daughters survive him. The funeral services were held at the Baptist church, Tuesday, at 10 a.m., conducted by Rev. E.F. Lilley. The body was interred in Oak Hill cemetery. The relatives from abroad present at the funeral were: David Ainley and Albert Ainley and wife, of Perry, and Mrs. Chas. Ainley of Des Moines.
