Homestake Veteran and longtime Lead resident, Herman Humble, died unexpectedly at his home, 601 Miners Ave., early Sunday morning. Death was attributed to a heart attack.
Humble was born March 12, 1871, in Norhult, Sweden, and came to the United States when a young man. He spent some time in Lincoln, Neb., before coming to the Hills to make his home. He was married in 1900 in Lead to the former Clara Ang, who preceded him in death in 1904. In 1917 he was married in Deadwood to the former Hilma Hulterstrom, who survives.
Humble began employment with the Homestake Mining Co. in 1899 as a moulder in the foundry and worked continuously until the time of his retirement Jan. 1,1941, except for a few years when he owned and operated a confectionary store in Lead.
He became a member of the Homestake Veterans Association in 1925 and was also a member of the Elks Lodge in Deadwood.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Paul (Angelin) Bennett, Denver, Colo. and a son, Junior Roland Humble, Los Angeles, Calif., and three grandchildren.
Funeral services are pending under the direction of the McColley Funeral Home, Lead.
