He was the husband of Jessie (Castrucci) Barretto, whom he married on May 29, 1964. The shared 43 years of marriage. Prior to moving to New Hampshire from Westford, Massachusetts, he and his family resided in the Cobblestone Family Home in Westford, MA which had been built by his father.
He was a graduate of Westford Academy, Westford, MA, and attended Columbia University in New York City.
Prior to entering the military, he had been employed at H.E. Fletcher Granite Company in Chelmsford, MA, as a draftsman.
In 1942 during World War II, he enlisted in Officers Candidate School at Ft. Belvoir, VA. He graduated from OCS and received his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant with the U.S. Army Engineers Corps. He served with the 534th Amphibious Engineers and Boat Battalion in the Pacific Theater. He served in the Philippines, Brisbane, Australia and Japan. He retired after serving on active duty and serving as member of the Army Reserves for 27 years achieving the rank of Lieutenant colonel.
In the early 1950's following his active duty in the military, Dennis and his brother, John J. Barretto founded the Barretto Granite Corp. Fabricating Plant, and the Kitledge Granite Corp Quarry in Milford, NH. In the early 1970's, they also founded Hampshire Hills Racquet and Health Club in Milford, NH.
He held membership in the Amherst Business Golf League of Amherst, NH, and the Rotary Club of Milford, NH. He was a parishioner of St. Kathryn's Church in Hudson, NH.
He was predeceased by two brothers, John J. Barretto, and infant, Dionisio, and two sisters, Rose Pinnell and Dora Elliott, and a brother-inlaw, Guido Castrucci.
In addition to his wife of 43 years survivors include two brothers; three sisters; two sister-in-law and a brother-in-law; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
