"They were an industrious family, Ed raised lots of horses, milked 30 to 40 cows and raised hogs. In the Lebanon Independent (Newspaper)I read where Ed delivered 140 hog by 12 bob sled loads to be shipped. He stated he had 75 more at home. Edgar Said they sold hogs twice a year".

Ed believed in thick cream. He said he was not hauling milk to town so he set his separator so his cream tested 50 instead of the usual 35. When they hauled cream to town, instructions were to leave part of a can. It was butter when they got home from shacking around in the can...Ed liked cream on everything. The skim milk was fed to the pigs the cream that was not eaten was sold for cash." Crane Cookbook page 3,6
