MARY KNIER
Mrs. Mary Knier, 80, (photo) of St. Nazianz, mother of 11 children, died Monday evening at the home in the village following a lingering illness.
Officiating as celebrant of the solemn requiem Mass at St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz, at 9:30 a.m. Thursday will be her son, Capt. Albert Knier, a chaplain with the U.S. Army at Ft. Lewis, Wash.Burial will be in the church cemetery.
She was born Mary Weber at Detroit, Mich., in 1874 and when [as] a child was brought to St. Nazianz by her parents. In 1894 she was married to John Knier and they loacated on a farm in Schleswig, which they operated for 35 years. Eighteen years ago they moved to St. Nazianz, when the farm was taken over by one of the sons. Her husband died in 1947. She was a member of the St. Ambrose congregation, the Christian Mothers and the Third Order of St. Francis.
The couple observed its golden wedding in 1944.
Surviving are eight sons, Louis, Ambrose and Anton of Sheboygan, Capt. Albert Knier of Ft. Lewis, Joseph and Edmond of St. Nazianz and John and Bernard of rural route, Kiel; three daughters, Mrs. Paul Anders of St. Nazianz, Mrs. Raymond Schuh of Manitowoc and Mrs. Michael Schwoerer of Rt. 1, Valders; 41 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
